  • You're in Control: Variable Speed Control and Pulse feature let you manually fine-tune the texture of any recipe

To be considered the “Best Overall Blender,” an appliance needs to be good at everything, it needs to represent value for money and must have very few negative issues, and the Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series blender does just that. It is the best of the best.

Vitamix makes some of the most capable small kitchen appliances in the business. Their models are built to the highest standard using excellent materials to make sure the A3500 can perform any blending job in the kitchen, giving you the smoothest, most consistent drinks, dips, and beverages.

The Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series Smart Blender is one of the most technically advanced appliances to come out of the Vitamix house, to ensure it stands head and shoulders above all other blenders and giving it the title of “Best Overall Blender.”

The Good

Vitamix’s A3500 is the epitome of cool. The large 64oz classic-style pitcher harks back to the early blenders of the 1930s, while the sleek, black, and silver motor base with LCD and touchscreen control panel brings this appliance screaming into the 21st century.

The beautiful base is home to a powerful 1380w 10-speed motor that gives you complete control over your blending via five pre-sets (Smoothies, Frozen Desserts, Hot Soup, Dips, and Spreads, and Self-Cleaning). It provides you with the perfect combination of power, speed, and timing at the touch of a button. If you want even more control, there’s a programmable timer for your custom recipes.

The laser-cut, hardened stainless steel blades are the perfect partner for the 1380w motor, which can obliterate, emulsify, and pulverize even though toughest ingredients provide you with silky smooth beverages and dips with minimal fuss. The high-quality blades also reach speeds high enough to warm your concoction with what Vitamix calls ‘Blade Friction Heating.’

The Vitamix Blender comes equipped with a ‘self-cleaning mode’ that makes it easy to tidy up after yourself. The 60-second cycle gets the pitcher sparkling clean with just a little soap and some warm water, while the motor base will wipe clean thanks to the glossy finish.

The Bad

There are no practical downfalls with the Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series Smart Blender; it’s as close to perfect as modern technology will currently allow. However, Vitamix knows how good their appliances are, and the price point reflects that near perfection.

This blender is expensive. Really expensive.

It would have been nice had Vitamix included some of the wi-fi connective pitchers that allow the A3500 to ‘read’ the size of the cup and adjust the speed and power accordingly. But despite the already substantial price point, these are sold separately.

Vitamix E310 Explorian Blender, Professional-Grade, 48 oz. Container, Black

If you're looking for that Vitamix quality, but the price point of the A3500 Ascent Series blender is out of your budget, then consider the Vitamix E310 Explorian.

The capacity is smaller, and you'll be missing out on all the modern features, touchscreens, and pre-settings. This appliance has all the same capabilities as its big brother, with the powerful 1380w ten-speed motor, laser-cut blades, blade friction heating, and self-cleaning modes, but at a fraction of the cost.

2. Breville Control Grip BSB510XL

Sale 7%
Breville BSB510XL Control Grip Immersion Blender
  • Bell shaped base, revolutionary shape plus internal ribbing reduces the suction for greater control and efficient blending
  • Ergonomic pistol-like control grip with trigger operation
  • 8" immersion depth for large quantities or tall pots

A good immersion blender is convenient, space-saving, practical, and super easy to use. The best immersion blender is versatile, effortless, and makes larger countertop blenders almost obsolete. Almost.

Immersion blenders can pulverize and emulsify ingredients in any cooking container (halving the mess in your kitchen). They’re compact for ease of storage. When they’re designed by kitchen powerhouses such as Breville, their innovative features and attachments can help you accomplish even the most challenging of tasks.

The Breville Control Grip BSB510XL sits at the top table of immersion blenders and demands that all other similar small kitchen appliances bend the knee. The undisputed ruler of the kitchen has everything a device needs to be crowned “Best Immersion Blender.”

The Good

The quality of the Breville Control Grip BSB510XL is apparent right out of the box. The ergonomic “pistol-like grip” gives it a distinct appearance that other similar devices don’t have. The grip isn’t just for aesthetical purposes, oh no, it has been explicitly designed for a more comfortable experience when you’re blending.

Breville have also fitted a specially designed & shaped bell that not only reduces suction when the large 8″ stem reaches the bottom of the container, the soft base prevents scratches on your cookware and stops liquid from being blasted all over your kitchen.

The 280-watt motor doesn’t have a tremendous amount of grunt, but it’s ably helped by the variable 15-speed motor that gives you complete control and precision.

The Control Grip could be the top immersion blender on build quality and performance alone, but if that wasn’t enough, Breville supply a bunch of attachments that make this appliance more versatile than any other handheld device you can buy.

A 42oz extra-large jug with dual-purpose anti-slip matt will give you more blending and storage space, while the whisk attachment can whip up a treat. The best attachment is the 25oz chopping cup, which has its own stainless steel blades to chop, slice and dice chunky vegetables, nuts and herbs.

The Bad

The term “you get what you pay for” is one that we often use because they’re wise words to live by. While some poor quality appliances might be overpriced, it’s scarce you’ll find a high-end device that is underpriced.

The Breville Control Grip BSB510XL is relatively expensive in the grand scheme of things, even compared to some countertop blenders. Still, if an immersion blender suits your needs more than any other style, you get a lot of blender for your money.

That’s not just metaphorically speaking, either. The Control Grip is big, and it’s heavy, and it could prove challenging to use for people who have issues with their hands.

Mueller Austria Ultra-Stick 500 Watt 9-Speed Immersion Multi-Purpose Hand Blender Heavy Duty Copper Motor Brushed 304 Stainless Steel With Whisk, Milk Frother Attachments

If the Breville Control Grip is too big and bulky for your needs (or maybe it's just too darn expensive), then the Mueller Ultra-Stick 500 could be the perfect alternative.

It's lighter than Breville's appliance, and the motor has almost double the power, though you will lose some of the control and precision because the motor has only nine speeds. The Mueller Ultra-Stick 500 comes with similar attachments, but the build quality is much lower, which is understandable as the Breville Control Grip is almost four times more expensive.

3. Nutri Ninja Auto IQ BL480D

Sale 25%
Ninja BL480D Nutri 1000 Watt Auto-IQ Base for Juices, Shakes & Smoothies Personal Blender, 18 and 24 Oz, Black/Silver
  • Auto IQ technology optimizes ninja: Pro extractor blades and power to deliver powerful nutrient and vitamin extraction
  • Powerful nutrient and vitamin extraction provides great tasting, nutritious beverages
  • 1000 watt motor has the power to crush through whole fruits, vegetables and ice in seconds

Personal blenders are amongst the most popular blending appliances. Thanks, in part, to their compact nature and single-serve containers that make them perfect for gym-goers and people on the move. The ability to whip up a quick protein shake or delicious smoothie is a huge selling point of personal blenders.

Ninja are held in high regard in the cooking community because their appliances are not just good quality, they’re also quite affordable, making them more accessible to a broader range of consumers.

The Nutri Ninja Auto IQ has more to offer than a standard device, with its own patented technology and powerful motor, this appliance is the ideal personal blender.

The Good

Ninja have always been among the best in the business at producing attractive appliances; they seem to have the knack of coming up with designs that suit their brand name and look at home in kitchens of all styles.

The motor base isn’t just a pretty piece of plastic, though; it’s home to a 1000 watt motor that outshines even some countertop blenders. The motor powers Ninja’s robust ‘Pro Extractor Blades’ that pulverizes whole fruits without the need to remove the cores, pips, and seeds from fruits and vegetables.

Most personal blenders are simple appliances with one-speed motors and no features. However, the Nutri Ninja Auto IQ BL480D comes equipped with ‘Auto IQ Technology’ which takes the guesswork out of blending with timed pauses and pulses for a more consistently smooth finished product.

Once the Auto IQ has done its thing, just fit the container with the specially designed ‘Spout Lids,’ and you’re ready to go. Dishwasher safe pitchers are designed to ensure the clean-up process is quick and easy, rounding out a fantastic experience from start to finish with the Nutri Ninja Auto IQ BL480D.

The Bad

Smashing stainless steel blades into large chunks of ice and frozen fruits, inside a plastic container is always going to make a lot of noise. We challenge you to show us any blender that doesn’t ramp up the decibel meter.

Still, The Nutri Ninja Blender is louder than most. Imagine a jet engine blasting gravel into some sheet metal, and you’ll have an idea of the racket this blender can make.

We don’t know if it is possible to make a quiet blender, but we’re sure it’s possible to produce one quieter than the Auto IQ.

Magic Bullet Blender, Small, Silver, 11 Piece Set

The Magic Bullet is an affordable alternative to Ninja's Auto IQ at half the cost. It is has a smaller capacity and only one speed; however, the genius lies in simplicity. With no buttons or features to speak of, this blender couldn't be easier to use.

It doesn't have the power of the Nutri Ninja, so the blending process might take longer.

4. Vitamix 750

Vitamix Professional Series 750 Blender, Professional-Grade, 64 oz. Low-Profile Container, Black, Self-Cleaning - 1957
  • Automated Blending: Five pre-programmed settings ensure simple cleaning, walk-away convenience, and consistent results for smoothie, frozen dessert, soup, and purée recipes.
  • You're in Control: Variable Speed Control and Pulse feature let you manually fine-tune the texture of any recipe;Cord: 6 ft
  • Low-Profile 64-ounce Container: Perfect for family meals and entertaining, while fitting comfortably under most kitchen cabinets. Electrical Ratings - 120 V, 50-60 Hz, 12 Amps

More and more people are realizing the importance of looking after their bodies, and as the health and fitness industry booms, so too has the sale of blenders thanks, in part, to the smoothie. Smoothies are deliciously healthy beverages made of whole or frozen fruits and ice for maximum nutrition and refreshment.

The nature of the drink means you’re going to be tossing a whole heap of rock hard ingredients into your appliance, so the blender you’re using must have a powerful motor and robust blades that are up to the task, because a smoothie by its very name, should be smooth.

When you choose a Vitamix product, you know that you’re buying quality, they are the Rolls Royce of kitchen appliances. The Vitamix 750 is unrivaled in its ability to produce the best smoothies quickly and efficiently.

The Good

There is no other brand in the market that focuses on quality the way that Vitamix does. Their attention to the build-quality detail sometimes means that aesthetic appeal takes a back seat. However, the Vitamix 750 is one of the prettier designs to come from their house. The appearance is somewhat of a hybrid between traditional kitchen appliances and contemporary electrical devices.

With robust switches and dials that give satisfying and reassuring clicks whenever used, the Vitamix 750 looks and feels like a high-end blender. Those switches and dials aren’t just there to look pretty; they control the massively powerful 1380 watt ten-speed motor with absolute precision to give your smoothies perfect consistency. At the same time, the pulse feature and other pre-set programs help with other kitchen-related tasks.

The laser-cut hardened steel blades work hand in hand with the motor to obliterate and pulverize even the toughest ingredients. The Vitamix patented pitcher is specially designed, so the ingredients fold back in on themselves to make the blending process even more efficient. The pitcher is low-profile, too, to fit under most kitchen cabinets for ease of storage.

When you’re finished blending, the clean-up time will be minimal thanks to the self-cleaning modes that will have your Vitamix 750 sparkling clean in no time at all, making this blender the only choice for ‘Best Smoothie Blender‘.

The Bad

Much like the Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series blender, the 750 is only limited by its massive asking price.

The is nothing physically wrong with this appliance as it borders on perfection with unrivaled performance and world-class build quality. Still, at three to four times the price point of other similar machines, the Vitamix 750 is not widely accessible for people on tighter budgets.

If we’re going to be picky, for the substantial price tag, would it be too much to ask that the 64oz pitcher be made from glass rather than plastic?

Ninja Professional Countertop Blender with 1100-Watt Base, 72 Oz Total Crushing Pitcher and (2) 16 Oz Cups for Frozen Drinks and Smoothies (BL660), Gray

While Ninja doesn't quite scale the heights that do Vitamix in terms of build quality, their blenders are an affordable alternative if you're on a tighter budget. The 1100 watt motor has less power than the Vitamix 750, but Ninja's 'Total Crushing Technology' helps the Ninja Pro BL660 turn ice to snow in seconds.

Ninja also provides a larger 74oz pitcher and two 16oz cups with 'to-go' lids so you can make smoothies for you and your family in no time at all. All this for a fraction of the cost of the Vitamix 750.

5. Hamilton Beach Power Elite

Sale 14%
Hamilton Beach Power Elite Blender with 40oz Glass Jar and 3-Cup Vegetable Chopper, 12 Functions for Puree, Ice Crush, Shakes and Smoothies, Black and Stainless Steel (58149)
  • Blender and chopper in 1 appliance
  • 40oz BPA free glass pitcher and 3 Cup food chopper
  • Revolutionary Wave Action system continuously pulls mixture down into the blades for smooth results every time

Buying small kitchen appliances can put a severe dent in your bank balance if you’re not careful, so it’s wise to buy within your budget. Not everyone can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a blender; not everyone would want to even if they could.

Maybe you’re on a tighter budget; perhaps you want to test the water before you commit to buying a more high-end product, or maybe you don’t plan on using your appliance all that much. Whatever your reason, there is a market for low-budget blenders.

When you’re buying a low budget appliance, you’ll have to make concessions over performance and build quality and longevity, but your blender should still be fit for purpose. That’s where the Hamilton Beach Power Elite comes in. A reasonable blender for a reasonable price point.

The Good

One of the main selling points of this blender is its ridiculously low price point. For less than a tank of gas, you can have a small kitchen appliance that will get the job done.

While the Hamilton Beach Power Elite isn’t going to win any beauty contests, it has a pleasant enough appearance when you consider how little money the brand has to put into this appliance to turn a profit.

The 700-watt motor base is surprisingly robust for a low budget machine, and it has far more pre-set programs than you would expect with 12 blending functions. That’s more than many high price point appliances have on their products.

Glass pitchers are popular among the blending community and consumers often lament the lack of glass containers with modern appliances. Hamilton Beach heard that call, and the Power Elite comes with a decent 40oz glass jar with an ‘easy-pour’ lid.

There is no self-cleaning function, but all removable parts are dishwasher safe to help with the clean-up process.

The Bad

It shouldn’t be surprising to learn that the Hamilton Beach Power Elite build quality does not match those appliances coming from Vitamix, Blendtec, Ninja, or NutriBullet. The lids and gaskets can be a little leaky, and it’s not going to last you a lifetime.

The low-cost components will mean longer blend times, and you might have to stop and start to push those tougher ingredients down towards the blades too. And while this unit can cope with fresh fruits and vegetables with comparative ease, you’ll find it struggles with harder elements like ice and frozen foods.

It’s loud, too, like gravel in a cement mixer.

Coming from the same brand, a decent alternative to the Hamilton Beach Power Elite, is the 14oz Hamilton Beach Personal Blender. This is a cheap and cheerful travel blender that can be easily transported for on the go smoothies and beverages. Available in seven different colors, it's compact and straightforward to use so you can take it to work or the gym for fresh and instant drinks.

Remarkably, it has an even lower price point than the power elite, making it affordable for anyone and everyone.

6. Blendtec Classic 575

  • Patented blade/80% thicker stainless-steel forged blade with wings for amazingly smooth blends (10x stronger than other blender blades) note Blade is not sharp blade is dull No more cuts and pokes

While there are many capable products on the market, not all models are suited to each person’s individual needs. Larger families need larger capacity appliances to avoid having to blend the same ingredients two or three times to have enough volume to supply their spouses, siblings, and offspring.

When this is the case, you’ll need an appliance with a substantial pitcher and a powerful motor to ensure that many fruits and vegetables are pulverized with high consistency and minimal fuss.

The Blendtec Classic 575 is the perfect appliance to cover all those bases. This monster blender is big and strong, and it comes from a reputable brand, so you know you’re getting value for money and a reliable machine that is by far and away the best large capacity blender.

The Good

If an appliance harbors hopes of being crowned ‘Best Large Capacity Blender,’ it better have an enormous pitcher. The Blendtec Classic 575 has one of the largest pitchers on the market with a massive 90oz container that holds all the fruit and vegetables you need it to, but it looks classy too.

If that wasn’t enough, the jar’s patented design ensures that all the ingredients are continually pulled down towards the blades for a consistent texture and a more efficient blend.

When you have a lot of ingredients, you’re going to need a powerful motor. The Blendtec 575 has a substantial 1560 wattage motor that’s connected 80% thicker forged stainless steel blades, which are dull, to make them much safer to use without compromising any performance.

The beastly motor is housed in an attractive black plastic base decorated with modern-looking push buttons and icons. The Blendtec Classic 575 has four one-touch preprogrammed settings for ease of use, while the pale blue LCD counts you down until completion.

It’s also possible to make hot soup from cold ingredients through the power of friction. Blend the pitcher’s contents for a few minutes to warm up your concoction.

When you’re finished, add a little soap and warm water to the container and run the self-cleaning mode to ensure your enormous pitcher is sparkling clean in less than a minute.

The Bad

There are a couple of drawbacks to having such a powerful motor. Not unlike other blenders with a similar wattage, this appliance is seriously loud. The cavernous 90oz pitcher could increase that problem, but we can’t be sure of that fact.

The motor can also cause some ingredients to spill out ever so slightly if you have a large volume of liquid in your pitcher thanks to the violent blending process.

Also, the motor base tends to ‘walk,’ especially when the appliance runs at full speed, meaning you’ll either need to hold on to your blender or place it on a non-slip surface.

Alternative large capacity blender

COSORI Blender for Shakes and Smoothies(Free Recipes), 1500W High Speed Professional Blender for Crushing Ice, Frozen Fruit with 70oz Pitcher&24oz Travel Bottle, UL Listed/FDA Compliant

While the Cosori C700-Pro doesn't quite have the enormous 90oz pitcher of the Blendtec Classic 575, it does come with a 70oz container that should be suitable for the needs of most larger families. Cosori have fitted it with a powerful 1500 watt variable speed motor, which almost matches its Blendtec counterpart.

It's got a temper to help manipulate ingredients towards the blades, has a self-cleaning mode (which you know we're a fan of), and comes with a travel bottle for all your protein shakes and smoothies, to make this appliance a fantastic alternative to the Classic 575.
