Design

This KitchenAid drip coffee maker has all the aesthetical hallmarks of a modern appliance. It comes in two colors, onyx black and matte charcoal grey, which give the coffee maker a sleek, stealthy appearance.

The detachable water reservoir sits on the back of the coffee maker and has useful measurement markings printed on the side, while the glass carafe has similar marks, so you know how much coffee you have left.

Stainless steel trim decorates the entire appliance, which gives it a high-end look for a relatively low price point.

Capacity

With a 12-cup capacity, this is a coffee maker that can provide delicious coffee for you and your entire family. The cavernous water tank is easily removable from the base; though you have to take it off to fill it, so you don’t have the option to fill the tank with a jug if you wanted to.

Features

  • 29 Hole Spiral Showerhead: KitchenAid claim their ‘unique’ 29 hole showerhead distributes the water more evenly over your coffee grounds for a smoother brew.
  • Pre-Set Timer: If you like a cup of coffee as soon as you wake up, the pre-set timer will make you happy. Set the timer to start brewing before your alarm clock is due to go off and wake up to the smell of hot coffee.
  • Warming Plate: Keep your coffee warm for up to two hours with the aptly named ‘warming plate.’ The warming cycle automatically starts after your coffee has finished brewing. Unfortunately, you can’t turn the warming plate back on without brewing more coffee, so two hours is the limit.
  • Removable Water Tank: It’s easy to fill this KitchenAid coffee maker with water, thanks to the convenient removable water tank. It’s marked with measurement lines, too, so there’s no guesswork.
  • Dual Brewing Buttons: Place your coffee maker in your preferred position on your countertop without struggling to turn it on, thanks to the dual brewing buttons. There’s one on the side and one on the front.

Ease of Use, Build Quality & Cleaning

The KCM1208DG Drip Coffee Maker is super simple to use thanks to many innovative designs implemented by KitchenAid. Level indicators on the water tank, the carafe, and the reusable filter, tell you how much water and coffee grounds you need dependant on the number of cups you want.

The timer is also ridiculously easy to set, and the duel one-press brew buttons are located in convenient positions.

Many consumers have reported strong chemical smells when they took their brand new KitchenAid coffee maker out of the box, which has required several cleaning rounds to remove. It’s worth noting that not all units have had this problem, but there are enough people with this complaint to give us pause for thought.

We couldn’t find any recommendations from KitchenAid about whether the tank, filter, and carafe for this coffee maker are dishwasher safe. It’s best to err on the side of caution and not put these parts in your dishwasher, which is a shame because they are not the easiest to clean.

The filter, especially, is a pain to remove residual coffee grounds from.

Should you buy the KitchenAid KCM1208DG Drip Coffee Maker?

This coffee maker is an excellent option for people just getting into coffee and experienced coffee fans alike, especially when you consider the relatively low price point.

It’s super simple to use, and KitchenAid holds your hand throughout the entire process to help you make a delicious cup of coffee. Though it’s not the slowest brew maker on the market, it’s not the fastest either, but plan ahead with the pre-set timer for hot coffee whenever you want.

  • Material: Stainless Steel, Plastic

  • Dishwasher Safe: No

Design

KitchenAid’s personal coffee maker is a cool-looking barista-style appliance available in three striking colors. It’s tall and slim and would look perfect in any contemporary kitchen.

Its uncomplicated appearance accurately represents this coffee maker’s overall simplicity, while the stylish brushed stainless-steel trim offsets the shiny colored plastic nicely.

The thermal mug’s exterior is also decorated in brushed steel and has a rubberized band (that matches the appliance’s color scheme) for a high-end travel cup appearance.

Capacity

As a single-serve appliance, the KitchenAid KCM0402OB Personal Coffee Maker is purpose-built for quick and convenient coffee. The water tank holds 16oz of water, and thermal mug capacity will give you a sizeable 18oz cup of coffee (if you add cream) that’s ready to go as soon as the last drop hits the mug.

The water tank is removable and has measurement markings on the side for accurate filling.

Ease of Use, Build Quality & Cleaning

Brewing a hot cup of coffee couldn’t be simpler with the KitchenAid personal coffee maker.

Fill the water tank to the required level (it will use all the water you put in the tank in one brew), choose your coffee grounds (KitchenAid recommend a medium grind, but it works just as well with a more coarse grind), press the ‘On/Off’ button and wait for the three beeps. Then grab your cup and go (but be careful as the mug gets very hot).

There are a couple of minor annoyances with the water tank, but not deal breakers. The plastic is quite dark, and even with the water level markings, it can be difficult to see how much water you’ve put in. And the hole for the water is small, so you’ll need a steady hand.

Cleaning is relatively easy. The water tank is removable, and cleaning the mug is as easy to clean as any mug you might own. Though because it has a brushed steel finish and silicone band, you might want to avoid putting it in the dishwasher.

Should you buy the KitchenAid KCM0402OB Personal Coffee Maker?

Convenience is the name of the game with this coffee maker. It’s compact, easy to use, and the whole process is super simple. It’s the coffee maker for people in a rush and eager to start their day.

It’s not ideal if you want large batches of coffee, so if you’re after an appliance to make brews for your whole family, we’d suggest a different device. But if you want quick and convenient coffee, give it a shot.

Pricewise, it’s not going to break the bank, but it is a little bit more expensive for what it is than you would hope.

  • Material: Glass, Stainless Steel, Plastic

Design

Everybody loves a stylish small kitchen appliance, and the KitchenAid Cold Brew Coffee Maker is as cool as they come. Not only is it a practical appliance, but it’s also an eye-catcher and a conversation piece.

Its unique square shape, brushed steel trim, crystal-clear brewing jar, and built-in stainless-steel tap give this coffee maker an aesthetic unlike any other.

The device is fitted with a convenient carry handle to make it easier to move it to and from your fridge. And even the handle oozes quality.

Capacity

With a 28oz capacity, the KitchenAid Cold Brew might not seem like it can produce large batches of coffee at once, but as it makes a coffee concentrate, you’ll get more out of this appliance than you’d think.

Following KitchenAid’s instructions, you’ll make 28oz of coffee concentrate, which in turn can be used to make up to 14 servings depending on your preferred strength or what ingredients you’re using.

Ease of Use, Build Quality & Cleaning

Though the process of making cold brew is a little more intricate (and time-consuming) than producing coffee in a ‘drip’ or ‘pour over’ appliance, once you get the hang of it, it’s not that daunting.

KitchenAid simplifies the process with this easy to use appliance. For the most part, it’s a solid construction that produces delicious cold brew. You’re not just limited to cold coffee, either. You can make iced tea, and KitchenAid even has a recipe for infused vodka.

The compact design gives it a small footprint that makes it easy to store, while the pour tap on the front makes it even more convenient. However, therein lies the problem with this appliance.

Many consumers have reported that the tap is prone to dripping after use, causing coffee to leak all over the fridge. We must note that the vast majority of customers don’t have this problem and are delighted with their appliance, but it is something to consider.

Cleaning is mostly easy, but the stainless-steel steeper has a laser-cut micro-mesh that can be a challenge to remove fine coffee sediment from. But overall, we’ve come across appliances which are far more difficult to clean.

Should you buy the KitchenAid KCM4212SX Cold Brew Coffee Maker?

Anyone looking for a cold brew coffee maker should consider the KitchenAid KCM4212SX, especially if you have a love of stylish kitchen appliances that are multi-functional too.

This coffee maker will keep you supplied with cold coffee all through the summer and well into the winter, too, if that’s your kind of thing.

It is expensive, though, for a cold brew appliance, and there’s always the risk you’ll be one of the unlucky customers who gets a unit with a leaky tap.
