Design

Ninja has rapidly become one of the world-leaders in small kitchen appliances design. You’d be hard pushed to find a product which Ninja has designed that doesn’t both look superb or hasn’t had a great deal of thought put into its layout.

The Ninja Hot & Cold coffee maker is the epitome of cool. From its general appearance to the sleek yet informative control panel, this appliance oozes class.

Ninja produced the central unit from quality black plastic, with the brew basket trimmed in brushed stainless-steel for a high-end feel.

Stylish buttons, dials, and icons are intelligently placed to form an intuitive control panel, which is super straightforward to use.

Even the carafe looks excellent with a unique shape and a stainless-steel handle that sports the iconic Ninja logo.

Capacity

While a 50oz water capacity is not the most cavernous tank available on a coffee maker, it’s sufficient to make approximately five or six standard cups of coffee or tea in one brew cycle.

The tank is removable, so it’s easy to fill and is marked with measurement lines to help you choose how much water you want to put in the appliance.

Features

  • Hot & Cold Brewing: If cold brew is your thing, this Ninja coffee maker has settings for both cold tea and coffee to ensure a full-bodied flavor and never allows your drink to be diluted.
  • Separate Coffee & Tea Brew Baskets & Filters: Color-coded brew baskets for tea and coffee allow you to quickly identify the right tool for the job and avoid contamination of each product.
  • Milk Frother: Brew multiple coffee styles with the aid of the built-in, fold away milk frother, that will quickly provide creamy, sweet tasting milk.
  • Six Specific Brew Sizes: An easy-to-use dial allows you to select the brew size of your choice quickly. Standard mug (9.5oz), XL Mug (11.5oz), Travel Mug (14oz), XL Multi-Serve (18oz), a half carafe (25oz), and full carafe (50oz).
  • Programmable Timer: The programmable timer allows you to choose precisely when you want the Ninja Hot & Cold coffee maker to brew up some coffee or tea over a 24-hour period.
  • Drip Stop: Pause the brew cycle to pour yourself a cup without dripping coffee everywhere with the ‘Drip Stop’ button.
  • Tea & Coffee Measurement Scoop: This appliance comes with a handy measuring scoop with specific sides for tea and coffee to simplify the brewing process. The scoop has its own storage place in the side of the machine.
  • Mug Shelf: A convenient fold away shelf is available to brew straight into smaller mugs and cups.
  • Progress Bar: Similar to a loading bar you might find on your PC, the progress bar lets you know how far on the Ninja Hot & Cold coffee maker is in its brew cycle.

Ease of Use, Build Quality & Cleaning

Ninja are well drilled in producing small kitchen appliances that perform various functions, yet are still easy to use. Frequently, a versatile machine is overly complex and daunting to use, but the Ninja Hot & Cold Brewer is still straightforward to use, thanks to an intelligent and well thought out design.

A couple of minor gripes though; firstly, the brew time for a full carafe is on the slow side, maybe we’re nitpicking here, but it’s worth pointing out. Secondly, there is no notification if you don’t have enough water in the reservoir to meet your brew selection; you’ll end up with less coffee than you selected, which will be a lot stronger than you wanted.

Consumer complaints regarding this appliance are minimal because this coffee maker’s build quality is generally spot-on, which is usually the case with most Ninja products.

Cleaning is mostly easy, as all the removable parts, except for the carafe, are dishwasher safe. Unfortunately, this particular carafe has a very small opening which won’t accommodate most human hands, so you’ll need a bottle brush of some kind to get it clean.

Should you buy the Ninja Hot & Cold Auto IQ Coffee Maker?

Ninja are the masters of the multifunctional appliance. The Hot & Cold Auto IQ coffee maker caters to fans of different coffee and tea genres. An abundance of features will have you tweaking and perfecting your hot and cold beverages for years to come.

The Ninja Hot & Cold isn’t exactly cheap, but when you consider the scale of versatility you get with this coffee maker, it does represent excellent value for money.

A version of Ninja Hot & Cold comes with a thermal carafe; however, the price point is significantly increased compared to this model, so check a list of the best thermal coffee makers.

  • Appliance Weight: 3.12lbs
  • Capacity:  50oz
  • Material: Stainless Steel, Plastic, Glass
  • Available Colors: Stainless Steel
  • Dishwasher Safe: Selected Parts

Design

The Ninja Specialty coffee maker is instantly recognizable thanks to its unique appearance, and is unlike most other coffee appliances.

Rather than a traditional layout with the water tank at the rear and the dispenser/carafe at the front, this appliance has them side by side, which is eminently more practical.

The brew basket case is made from brushed steel, with the rest of the appliance being made of black and transparent plastic.

The control panel on the Specialty coffee maker is modern in appearance, however, there is a lot going on in a small space, leaving it to look just a little cluttered.

Capacity

The Ninja Specialty comes with the same 50oz water reservoir as does the Hot & Cold Auto IQ, and by extension, can brew the same amount of coffee.

While this appliance has a removable water tank, the reservoir on this coffee maker is even more straightforward to remove and fill, making it marginally superior, in this regard, to its more expensive brother.

Features

  • Specialty Brew: Expand your coffee creativity with the ‘Specialty Brew,’ which creates a super concentrate that can be used for lattes, macchiato, cappuccinos, and such.
  • Classic & Rich Brew: Choose between a regular coffee strength or a rich brew for a fuller-bodied coffee.
  • Iced Coffee: The Ninja Specialty produces a specific strength coffee brewed over ice for a cold beverage that won’t lose its potency.
  • Fold Away Milk Frother: Like the Ninja Hot & Cold appliance, the Specialty coffee maker has a built-in milk frother for sweeter, creamier milk.
  • Six Brew Sizes: With six brew sizes, this coffee maker can deliver precisely the right size of brew, ranging from a single small cup to a full carafe.
  • Double-Sided Scoop: A double-sided scoop will aid you in putting precisely the right amount of coffee in the filter, eliminating waste, and producing a deliciously consistent brew-flavor.

Ease of Use, Build Quality & Cleaning

Packed full of functions, the Ninja Specialty coffee maker has a ton of buttons to play with. And while this appliance is relatively straightforward to use, the control panel is small, and by extension, so are the buttons, so it could be a challenge for those with larger hands to operate this machine.

As you would expect, this being a Ninja appliance, the build quality is tip-top, with the possible exception of the milk frother. It’s not terrible; however, it does feel flimsy and doesn’t fill us with confidence regarding longevity. It feels as though it wouldn’t take much force to break it.

For day-to-day cleaning, the removable parts are dishwasher safe. To give your coffee maker a more in-depth clean; there’s a specialized ‘clean’ function to help maintain the internal components of the machine.

Should you buy the Ninja Specialty Coffee Maker?

While the Specialty coffee maker has many similar features to the Ninja Hot & Cold Auto IQ, it can’t make tea, and the cold brew features aren’t as extensive.

However, when you consider the best drip coffee maker has a lower price point, it’s a fine alternative to the Hot & Cold for those people who aren’t interested in tea or cold brew.

Design

Brushed stainless steel is a very popular look in the world of small kitchen appliances, and Ninja has found the sweet spot between plastic and metal to produce a stunning coffee maker.

The base, control panel, carafe, and where the brew basket is stored are all trimmed in silver, while a clean and crisp (if not a little small) series of operational buttons are found down the right side of the unit.

Ninja’s iconic logo is subtly embossed on the brew basket and the carafe’s handle to give this coffee maker a very high-end appearance.

Capacity

The Ninja Programmable Brewer is the largest capacity coffee maker we’ve looked at today. Ninja has given this appliance a slightly larger water reservoir and carafe that holds 60oz, or around seven or eight cups of coffee in a full carafe.

Fitted with a removable water reservoir (as it seems most Ninja coffee makers are, because, well, it’s a brilliant idea), you won’t have any issues filling it. The water measurement markings ensure you don’t over or under fill your coffee maker.

Features

  • ‘Hotter Brewing Technology’: Fitted with a specialist boiler, this appliance produces scorching hot coffee.
  • Small Batch Brewing: Brew between one and four cups without the guesswork using the ‘Small Batch’ button.
  • Dual Strength: This coffee maker caters to both standard coffee tastes and those who prefer their morning Joe a little more robust with the ‘Classic’ and ‘Rich’ settings.
  • Adjustable Warming Plate: Keep coffee at your preferred temperature for up to four hours after it’s finished brewing.
  • Flavor Straw: This feature promises perfect coffee circulation to ensure deliciously consistent coffee.
  • Delay Brew: The ‘Delay Brew’ is just a fancy name for a programmable timer that allows you to plan ahead and have coffee ready precisely when you want it to be.

Ease of Use, Build Quality & Cleaning

Ninja coffee makers tend to make incredibly consistent coffee. Probably not the best in the world, but when you consider how this brand always seems to have relatively low price points, the standard of coffee is impressive.

In general, this appliance is very easy to use, from the water reservoir to the brew basket down to the control panel, with one confusing exception; the ‘Delay Brew’ feature. The buttons need to be pressed in a specific order, or the program will either reset the process, or you’ll wake up with no coffee at all. Once you understand the process, it’s not rocket science; however, it might take you a few tries to dial it in.

This coffee maker has the same ‘Clean’ function as the Ninja Specialty to help you maintain the inside of your appliance. While the rest of the device is straightforward to clean, the carafe can become stained after prolonged use.

Should you buy the Ninja Programmable Brewer?

If you’re on a tighter budget in your search for a decent coffee maker, then the Ninja Programmable Brewer is worth your attention. While this appliance probably isn’t for the coffee aficionados of the world, it has more than enough versatility to keep regular coffee consumers supplied with delicious steaming mugs of Joe.
