Cooks Standard Classic Stainless Steel 8-Quart Stock Pot

If you need a stockpot for simple cooking tasks and don't have a professional chef's budget, the 'Cooks Standard Classic 8-Quart Stockpot' is a no-brainer. This cookware can accomplish easy, everyday tasks with minimal fuss.

While this stockpot isn't ideal for cooking complicated meals, and it can be a pain to clean, it's an excellent example of cookware that doesn't cost the earth if you're willing to make a few concessions.

While a stockpot is traditionally used to make stock (hence the name), they are so much more versatile than functioning to perform only one task. Every kitchen should have one for making large batches of chili, pasta, stew, soup, and yes, stock.

Today we’re looking at our six favorite stockpots. We base our opinions on affordability, build-quality, performance, appearance, durability, ease of use, and how easy they are to clean.

Let’s get started.

1. All-Clad D5 Stainless Steel 12-Quart Stock Pot

BEST STOCK POT
All-Clad BD55512 D5 Brushed 18/10 Stainless Steel 5-Ply Bonded Dishwasher Safe Stock Pot with Lid...
  • Features a wide base for sauteing before adding liquids, and tall sides with lid to reduce evaporation and retain a light consistency - highly versatile with any liquid-related cooking
  • 5-ply bonded construction with alternating layers of stainless steel and aluminum for warp-free durability and supremely even heating that eliminates hotspots
  • For an added touch of refinement, it features a beautiful and easy to maintain brushed finish and fitted, stainless-steel lids

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 14.3 x 11.4 x 9.5 inches
  • Weight: 8.3lbs
  • Capacity: 12-Quart
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Oven Safe: Yes
  • Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Things To Love

  • ‘5-Ply’ Stainless Steel Construction: Five layers of stainless steel and aluminum is the perfect blend between performance and durability. While All-Clad produces a tri-ply version of their cookware, which is less expensive, it has worse heat retention.
  • Aluminum Core: If the 5-ply construction ensures the cookware’s durability, then the aluminum core provides performance. The aluminum layer improves heating efficiency and reduces hotspots, so your food won’t stick.
  • ‘Starburst’ Finish: The highly polished appearance is both beautiful and practical. The pot’s interior offers an excellent finish that food rarely sticks to, is easy to clean, and is non-reactive, so your food won’t taste like metal, and acidic ingredients won’t damage it.
  • Riveted Handles: Cook safe in the knowledge your cookware won’t fail when transporting a heavy pot full of food around the kitchen, thanks to the robust riveted handles.
  • Super Versatile: There is no stopping the All-Clad D5 stockpot. Thanks to its high-end construction, you can use this cookware for almost any kitchen related task. Sauteing, stewing, simmering, all the esses. It’s oven-safe so that you can use it as a dutch oven. You can put it in the freezer or use it at extremely high temperatures without fear of warping your cookware. It’s a Jack of all trades.
  • Made in the USA – like most of All-Clad’s cookware is still made in their home country.

What’s Not To Like?

  • It Has a Ludicrously High Price Point: The ‘All-Clad D5 Stainless Steel Stock Pot’ is a beautiful piece of cookware, with only one real downside. It’s expensive. It’s so expensive that you could buy almost every stockpot on our list (combined) for this unit’s price.

Final Remarks

The ‘All-Clad D5 Stainless Steel Stock Pot’ is not only the finest stockpot on the market; it’s also the most expensive. However, that expense buys you quality, durability, and versatility. If you can afford the initial outlay, you’ll never again need to buy another stockpot.

2. Cooks Standard Classic Stainless Steel 8-Quart Stock Pot

BEST VALUE STOCK POT
Sale 20%
Cooks Standard 8-Quart Classic Stainless Steel Stockpot with Lid, 8-QT, Silver
  • Made with polished 18/10 stainless steel with an aluminum disc layered in the bottom
  • Aluminum disc layered bottom provides even heat distribution and prevents hot spots
  • Stainless steel lid keeps in heat and moisture; Durable stainless steel riveted handles

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 9.5 x 9.5 x 8 inches
  • Weight: 4.9lbs
  • Capacity: 8-Quart
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Oven Safe: Yes
  • Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Things To Love

  • Value For Money: Pound for pound, the ‘Cooks Standard 8-Quart Stockpot’ is the best value for money piece of cookware on the market. Unbelievably, this pot is ten times cheaper than the All-Clad D3 alternative. While the Cooks Standard cookware is nowhere near the level of quality of All-Clad, it’s certainly not ten times worse.
  • Multifunctional: Despite its low price point, the Cook Standard stockpot is surprisingly versatile. Oven-safe up to 500F, you can cook (and keep warm) different varieties of food with minimal fuss. Canning, jarring, and stewing is a breeze.
  • Works On All Cooker Types: The Cooks Standard 8-Quart Stockpot works on any cooker or stove, including induction cookers.
  • Excellent for Daily Use: Because this stockpot is cheap and cheerful, you can use it and abuse it with little worry. While it’s not advisable to use it every day to cook elaborate meals, this low-cost cookware can cover your boiling, canning, and sous vide needs without breaking the bank.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Made in China: To help keep retail prices down, Cooks Standard have their stockpots produced in China. This can be an instant turn-off to many consumers as Chinese made stainless steel cookware isn’t always the best quality, and their manufacturing regulations aren’t as strict as they are in the USA.
  • Aluminum Disc: The purpose of the aluminum disc fixed to the pot’s bottom is to help with heat conduction. However, as it is only fixed to the bottom, it does little (if anything) to help heat the stockpot’s side-walls, leaving it susceptible to unevenly heated food and possible burning around the disc area.
  • Challenging to Clean: The cheap construction might be wallet-friendly, but it makes cleaning this cookware a challenge. You’ll need to give the stockpot a long soak or be prepared to use some elbow grease to remove stubborn, burnt-on food.

Final Remarks

If you need a decent everyday pot without spending a small fortune, the Cooks Standard Classic Stockpot is worth your consideration. While it doesn’t excel at anything, it’s adequate for most tasks, though we’d advise using it mainly to cook low-viscosity liquids and boiling water, as it’s prone to burning thicker foods.

3. Made In Stainless Clad 8-Quart Stock Pot

  • Winner of Best Overall Cookware Brand by Chowhound
  • Made in Italy
  • 5-ply construction
  • Induction compatible

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 10.75 x 14.5 x 5.5 inches
  • Weight: 4.25lbs
  • Capacity: 8-Quarts
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Oven Safe: Yes
  • Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Things To Love

  • Five-Ply Construction: With two more layers than All-Clad’s D3 stockpot, this Made In cookware is super durable and has the potential to last generations.
  • Made In Italy: The Italians are no strangers to delicious food and are world beaters in craftsmanship. While this stockpot is not exactly cheap, the price point is reasonable for such a quality pot.
  • Excellent Heat Retention: The thick walls of this stockpot ensures the cookware retains heat effectively and evenly, delivering evenly cooked, piping hot meals.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty: So confident are ‘Made In’ in their product that they offer a limited lifetime warranty covering your stockpot against damage and defects.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Takes Longer to Heat: While the thick five-ply construction is exceptionally durable, it negatively impacts its heat conduction effectiveness. It will take longer to heat up than the All-Clad’ Tri-ply’ stockpot.
  • Stains Easily: Multiple consumers have complained that this cookware stains more easily than other products, particularly water stains. While you can remove some of them with a little vinegar, not all the stains are temporary.
  • Not Much Handle Space: Though the ergonomic handles are stable, they don’t have much space, so they could be challenging to hold for people with larger hands or when using an oven mitt.

Final Remarks

The ‘Made In 8-Quart Stock Pot’ is the closest product (in terms of quality) to the ‘All-Clad D5 12-Quart Stock Pot’, but it’s a fraction of the cost. While the five-ply construction gives this cookware superior durability, it negatively impacts the performance slightly. When all’s said and done, this Made In cookware will last a lifetime.

4. Xtrema' Pure Ceramic' 5.5-Quart Versa Pot

Xtrema' Pure Ceramic' 5.5-Quart Versa Pot

Xtrema 5.5-quart Versa 100% ceramic sauce pot with a lid we offer is designed to handle anything you crave. Cleanup time can finally be a breeze. This signature pot features a dishwasher-safe, non-toxic glaze with a high-gloss, scratch-proof finish that will keep this cooking tool looking like-new for many years to come.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 10.5 x 5.5 inches
  • Weight: 7.05lbs
  • Capacity: 5.5-Quarts
  • Material: 100% Ceramic
  • Oven Safe: Yes
  • Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Things To Love

  • ‘Pure Ceramic’: Xtrema’s 5.5-Quart Versa Pot is the only cookware in this article made from 100% ceramic materials, making it the most healthy stockpot choice on the market. The natural ceramic materials contain zero toxins or contaminants, and the product won’t leach any wanted chemicals into your food.
  • Easy to Clean & Scratch Resistant: In the unlikely event that the ceramic stockpot gets super dirty, the interior is straightforward to clean. You can use any cleaning products you like and scrub the pot as hard as you need to without causing any damage.
  • Preserves Natural Flavors: The stockpot’s material isn’t just a healthy option; it also ensures you don’t lose any of the natural flavors of your food. Because the pot won’t absorb odor or flavor and doesn’t contaminant ingredients, you’re guaranteed the purest flavor when using the Xtrema Versa Pot.
  • Oven, Dishwasher & Microwave Safe: The only stockpot in this article you can use in conjunction with all three of these kitchen appliances for ease of use and versatility.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Relatively Expensive: Xtrema cookware is pretty pricey. While it doesn’t reach All-Clad levels of expensive, the Versa Pot has a pretty hefty price tag considering its limited capacity and lack of durability.
  • Poor Longevity: By far, the biggest drawback to Xtrema cookware is its fragility. You have to be super careful with their product as it’s susceptible to hairline fractures during extreme temperature changes. While dropping the pot will guarantee its destruction.
  • Doesn’t Heat Evenly: You would (and should) expect better conduction from such an expensive stockpot, but despite Xtrema’s claims, the Versa Pot doesn’t heat evenly and produces inconsistent results.

Final Remarks

The Xtrema’ Pure Ceramic’ Versa Pot isn’t the best stockpot on the market. It doesn’t have the best performance, and it’s so fragile you’ll be afraid to use it. So why would you pay such a high price point for a seemingly mediocre product? It’s a simple choice of your health over everything else. No other product can guarantee toxin-free cooking, as does the 5.5-quart Versa Pot.

5. Cook N Home 4-Piece 8-Quart Multipot

Cook N Home 4-Piece 8 Quart Multipots, Stainless Steel Pasta Cooker Steamer

  • Dimensions: 11 x 11 x 9 inches
  • Weight: 6lbs
  • Capacity: 8-Quarts
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Oven Safe: Yes
  • Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Things To Love

  • Affordable Price Point: This stockpot is super affordable and a decent entry-level piece of cookware.
  • Steamer & ‘Pasta Pot’: The Cook N Home 8-Quart multipot is more than a stockpot. As it includes a steamer insert and a ‘pasta pot’, this cookware is the most versatile product in this article.
  • Compatible With All Cooker Types: Cook N Home’s stockpot is compatible with all stovetops and cooker types, including induction cookers for added versatility. Consumers are especially happy with how this cookware performs with induction appliances.
  • Tempered Glass Lid: A glass lid ensures you can see what’s going on inside your pot without removing the lid and losing precious heat. Though the lid is fragile, so you’ll need to be gentle with it.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Water Overflow: When cooking with the pasta pot, you’ll find the The Cook N Home 8-Quart multipot tends to spit water over the sides.
  • Aluminum Disc Bottom: Fitting an aluminum disc to the bottom of the cookware is a more cost effective way of improving heat conduction, but it’s far from ideal.
  • Discoloration: Out of the box, the The Cook N Home 8-Quart multipot looks fantastic with a polish stainless steel exterior. However, this appearance will deteriorate over time. Though this does not negatively impact performance.

Final Remarks

If you’re looking for an affordable, multifunctional stockpot that can help with a variety of boiling, simmering and straining tasks, the The Cook N Home 8-Quart multipot is worth your consideration.

While there are a couple of minor design flaws, they pale in comparison to the benefits of this versatile stockpot, especially when you consider its low price point.

  • Weight: 7.5lbs
  • Capacity: 16-Quarts
  • Material: Stainless steel
  • Oven Safe: Yes
  • Dishwasher Safe: Yes

Things To Love

  • Massive Capacity: This large capacity stockpot is easily the largest pot to feature in this article. Farberware designed its enormous 16-quart capacity with large meals, parties, and catering in mind.
  • No-Nonsense Basic Design: There’s nothing particularly eye-catching about this stockpot, and that’s precisely what some people are looking for. No bells and whistles, just a large stockpot for making substantial amounts of food.
  • Excellent Heat Conduction: Despite its massive capacity, this stockpot heats up relatively quickly, which is a blessing when cooking large quantities of food/liquid.
  • Well-Fitting Lid: A lid that fits well not only improves our overall opinion of a piece of cookware, but it’s essential to heat retention. The Farberware lid is neither too tight nor too loose.
  • Straightforward to Clean: If you follow the rules for cooking with stainless steel, the ‘Farberware Classic Stock Pot’ not only boils well, it’s super easy to clean too.

What’s Not To Like?

  • The Handles: Considering the enormous capacity of the ‘Farberware Stock Pot,’ it’s likely to get very heavy when it’s full. It would have been a good idea to have riveted handles on this pot; unfortunately, that isn’t the case.
  • Only Oven-Safe to 350F: While this stock pot is oven-safe, you can only use it up to a temperature of 350F, which limits its versatility somewhat compared to similar products.
  • Hot Lid: Most pot lids get hot during use, but few get as hot as the lid on the Farberware stockpot. We highly recommend never forgetting to use an oven mitt when cooking with this cookware.

Final Remarks

The ‘Farberware Classic Stainless Steel Stock Pot’ is a superb option for people looking for a substantial pot to cook massive amounts of soups, stews, and chilis. While nothing to write home about, the performance is adequate, though you’ll have to be careful while using it as the whole pot tends to get very hot.
