Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Stack & Snap Food Processor & Vegetable Chopper, Black (70725A)

Hamilton Beach has identified a place in the market for affordable and functional, small kitchen appliances. The Hamilton Beach 70725A 12-Cup Food Processor is one such device that, while not perfect, is a fine example of what can be achieved for a relatively low cost.

It might be a little goofy looking, but it has a work bowl with substantial capacity, is easy to assemble, and has a decent amount of versatility. You're not going to get perfectly sliced and shredded fruits and veggies, but for a tiny fraction of the cost of some high-end appliances, it does its job well.

Looks

The Hamilton Beach 70725A 12-Cup Food Processor is one of the more ‘interesting’ looking appliances we have ever reviewed. Unlike a traditional food processor, the 70725A has a lot going on and looks very busy.

The black and brushed-steel exterior has a pleasant enough appearance, but the motor-base has all kinds of angles, steps, and nuances. The pronounced buttons on the base look a little dated, but they do give a reassuring click when pressed.

The Work Bowl, too, has many different hinges, clips, and icons painted on it. While it’s certainly not an ugly appliance, we feel the Hamilton Beach 70725A 12-Cup Food Processor is just trying a little too hard.

Score: 3.5/5

Capacity

The best food processors in the market with a double-digit capacity should be large enough to cope with the needs of a large family or enthusiastic batch cooker.

Hamilton Beach furnished the 70725A with a 12-Cup capacity work bowl so you can make substantial quantities of food and meal prep without emptying the bowl or making multiple, individual batches.

Getting the contents out of the work bowl has been made easier by the inclusion of an easy pour spout situated on the side of the container.

Score: 4/5

Features

  • ‘Stack and Snap’: There are no finicky locking mechanisms with the Hamilton Beach 70725A 12-Cup Food Processor. Place the work bowl in the right place on the motor-base, and it merely locks itself into place without the need for twisting or turning.
  • Three Blades & Three Speeds: With three different speed options (Slice, Puree, and Pulse), this Hamilton Beach food processor is relatively efficient. Three blades complement the motor, an S-blade for chopping, and a reversible disc for shredding and slicing.
  • Safety Latches: The latches that secure the lid on to the work bowl ensure your safety. The motor will not start up unless they are correctly fastened. However, these clips are quite stiff and can be challenging to get closed.
  • ‘Big Mouth’ Feeding Tube: A variety of whole fruits and vegetables (but not all) can fit into the Big Mouth feeding tube to eliminate some pre-chopping for food prep.
  • Suction Feet: Suction cups attached to the bottom of this appliance should stop it from ‘walking’ when in use.

Score: 4/5

Performance & Cleaning

While the Hamilton Beach 70725A 12-Cup Food Processor does not have the processing power of a Breville, Cuisinart, or KitchenAid appliance, it still performs pretty well, considering it has a significantly lower price point than all three other brands. Even though the slicing and shredding aren’t as uniform as a higher-end appliance, it is passable.

That low cost doesn’t come without a couple of issues, though. Firstly, the gap between the reversible disc and the lid is wide enough that the last chunks of your ingredients can pass between them, causing a build-up of food over time.

Secondly, the work bowl has a quality issue that allows chunks of food to get into a space between the handle and the chute that can be challenging to remove, especially if you don’t have a dishwasher.

Yes, selected parts are dishwasher safe, which makes cleaning easy, but cleaning won’t be as straightforward if you don’t have a dish washing appliance.

Should you buy the Hamilton Beach 70725A 12-Cup Food Processor?

  • Simple Yet Stylish
  • Easy To Use

Looks

Whereas the Hamilton Beach 70725A Food Processor was incredibly busy in appearance, the Hamilton Beach 70740 8-Cup Food Processor has a refined look that is subtle and stylish.

The black gloss motor-base is curvaceous with a silver trim that compliments the aesthetic. An easy to use chrome dial sits on the front, while the simple, transparent plastic work bowl completes the look.

Score: 4/5

Capacity

With an 8-Cup work bowl, this Hamilton Beach food processor is a decent size. While it won’t be large enough to mass-produce substantial batches, it will be more than enough for an average-sized family and all their processing needs. It hits the sweet spot between size and storability.

Score: 3.5/5

Features

  • Three Blades & Three Speeds: The Hamilton Beach 70740 8-Cup Food Processor matches its big brother in terms of power, speeds, and versatility with the same wattage motor, the same number of speeds, and S-Blade & reversible disc assemblies.
  • “Large” Feeding Tube: Hamilton Beach lists this feeding tube as ‘large,’ and while any feeding tube is better than no tube, you will still be required to chop some (most) of your ingredients down a bit before inserting them into the tube.
  • Compact Storage: It is possible to flip the lid of this appliance to reduce the overall height and make it easier to store.
  • Suction Cup Feet: As with the larger 70725A, this food processor also comes equipped with suction cup feet to stop the appliance from moving around under vibrations.

Score: 3/5

Performance & Cleaning

The Hamilton Beach 70740 8-Cup Food Processor was not designed to shatter any food processing glass ceilings; it was produced to be an affordable small kitchen appliance that does a job.

You won’t get perfectly chopped fruits or uniformly sliced vegetables, but for a fraction of the cost of the big boys, you do get a helping hand in the kitchen for a relatively small outlay.

One surprise for Hamilton Beach 70740 8-Cup Food Processor owners is that it mixes dough surprisingly well. A task that some more expensive processors can struggle with.

All removable parts are dishwasher safe, and there’s no nooks or crannies for small chunks of ingredients to get stuck in.

Score 3.5/5

  • Easy Use

  • Power Cord Wrap

Cons

  • There’s a Learning Curve
  • No Safety Features
  • No Feeding Tube
  • Single Speed

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 5.9 x 5.2 x 8.54 inches
  • Work Bowl Material: Plastic
  • Appliance Weight: 2.59lbs
  • Capacity: 3-Cup
  • Available Colors: Black
  • Dishwasher Safe: Removable Parts
  • Wattage: 350W

Looks

Make no mistake, this is a very small kitchen appliance, and because of that, there isn’t really much to look at. The Hamilton Beach 72850 is a cylindrical food processor and comes with a black plastic base (complete with logo) that has a silver trim.

The 3-Cup work bowl is a transparent container with a ‘Max Liquid’ line written on it.

And that’s about it. Not overly attractive. Not Ugly. It just ‘is’.

Score: 3/5

Capacity

A 3-Cup work bowl will not hold massive amounts of fruits and vegetables; you won’t be producing a week’s worth of meal prep all in one go. But the Hamilton Beach 72850 Mini 3-Cup Food Processor wasn’t designed to do that. This appliance is for small kitchen tasks, and there is a demand for lower capacity food processors.

Score: 2.5/5

Features

  • Stack and Press: The Hamilton Beach 72850 Mini 3-Cup Food Processor has a unique ‘Stack and Press’ design that allows the work bowl to be quickly and easily clicked into place (with no twist lock), and then press down to use. Simple.
  • Oil Reservoir: Slowly add oil or liquid to the work bowl with what Hamilton Beach calls the ‘Oil Dispenser,’ situated on the lid.
  • Power Cord Wrap: A simple but effective design that lets you wrap the power cord around the appliance for ease of storage.

Score: 2.5/5

Performance & Cleaning

When you buy an exceedingly cheap small kitchen appliance, you should expect a relative performance. While the Hamilton Beach 72850 Mini 3-Cup Food Processor can’t compete with more expensive devices, it does perform better than its ridiculously low price point would suggest.

Because there’s a lack of any real features with this appliance, there is somewhat of a learning curve that will require some trial and error when chopping ingredients. It’s all too easy to overdo it and end up with a puree.

You must be careful when using this appliance as there are zero safety features, so keep out of reach of children.

The work bowl, blade, and lid are all dishwasher safe and easy to clean.

Score: 3/5

Should you buy the Hamilton Beach 72850 Mini 3-Cup Food Processor?

You won’t get evenly chopped and pureed fruits and vegetables, and there are (obviously) no shredding or slicing options. Still, the 350w motor on this little unit will help out with all the small tasks in the kitchen and is ideal for families with new additions to make baby food.
