I’ve tried to recreate the chai flavor in this fragrant granola. The butter gives it a soft taste. However, coconut oil can be used as well. Chai tea is a combination of black tea, spices, milk and water. Chai actually means tea. It originates from India, Nepal, Tibet and Pakistan. It has been around for a very long time and is used to naturally heal people. Only in the last years Chai tea has become more well-known in the US and Europe. The most important spices in Chai are cardamom, cinnamon, clove and ginger. I added vanilla here.
- 4 cups old-fashioned oats (gluten free if necessary)
- 1/4 cup quinoa flakes (optional)
- 2/3 cup hazelnuts, chopped roughly
- 1/2 cup almond flakes
- 1/2 cup coconut flakes
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/3 cup honey
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter or coconut oil
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp ginger powder
- 1/2 tsp clove powder
How to make it:
- Preheat the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Add the butter and the honey to a small saucepan. Heat at a low temperature and mix until everything is incorporated. Remove the pan from the stove.
- Combine the oats, quinoa, almond, coconut flakes, and the hazelnuts in a bowl. Add the salt and stir well. Add the spices one by one and stir again.
- Pour the butter and honey mixture into the bowl and mix once again. Scoop everything on a baking sheet or a large oven dish. The granola is ready after 35 minutes. Make sure you stir after the first ten minutes and after that every five minutes. So the granola gets an even bake.
- Cool the granola before you add extras, such as dried fruit or super foods. Enjoy your homemade batch of chai granola!
