BEST VALUE
Mist UKF8001 Replacement Refrigerator Water Filter

Mist UKF8001 is a simple and durable water filter that does its job well. While it doesn’t remove most of the major contaminants, it does clear out all the chlorine - all its taste and odor. It’s an ideal option if you have clean city water already but want to improve its taste. It comes at a lower price than the rest, and it’s compatible with many different refrigerator brands and models.

It’s always best to buy a replacement refrigerator filter from the same brand to ensure compatibility. However, nowadays, there are many generic filters on the market that are affordable and more effective than the branded ones.

We’ve shared below our reviews for some of the best refrigerator water filters, both generic and branded. These are options you can look at if you are in search of a replacement refrigerator water filter.

1. EveryDrop by Whirlpool EDR1RXD1

Best refrigerator water filter

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 2.5 x 2.5 x 8.69 inches
  • Weight: 0.45 pounds
  • Filtration capacity: 200 gallons
  • Flow rate: 0.75 GPM
  • Filtration method: advanced carbon block media
  • Pore size: 0.2 micron
  • Certification: NSF standards 42, 53 and 401
  • Warranty: 1-year limited warranty

Things to Like

  • A thorough and efficient filtration process – the triple filtration process of this EveryDrop filter does a great job at eliminating contaminants. It’s able to remove 28 different contaminants, including particulates (99.99%), chlorine (97%), cysts (99.99%), and over 90% of pesticides,  pharmaceuticals, and emerging compounds like nonylphenol, naproxen, ibuprofen, TCPP, and more. It clears out 28 different contaminants.
  • Fast water flow rate – the water flow is relatively fast at 0.75GPM, so you won’t have to wait so long to get the filtered water, and it doesn’t slow down over time.
  • Easy to install – setting up the EveryDrop is quite simple, although it may vary slightly based on the model of your fridge. However, you have to flush around 4 gallons of water through it before using it.
  • Compatible with different refrigerator brands – what’s more appealing about this filter is that it works with a wide range of fridges. Some of the top refrigerator brands on the market, including Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn Air, and Amana, have approved it. It’s compatible with select refrigerator models from these brands, plus it works with different fridge styles that accept Filter 1- both side-by-side models as well as those with a bottom or top freezer.

What not to like?

  • It seems not to improve the water taste well – many users reported that the filtered water still retains a slight chlorine taste. Others claimed that the water initially has a weird tangy sour taste.
  • Short filter lifespan – the EveryDrop has a filtration capacity of 200 gallons, which is the same as a service life of 6 months. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to last that long. Users said it works efficiently only for four months, so you may have to replace it more frequently if you have a big family with high water consumption or if your water is high on contaminants.
  • Tends to make a hammering noise – there were many reports that the fridge starts to make a loud jackhammer sound when dispensing water once you install this EveryDrop filter. The reason for this is that it doesn’t insert into the housing well for a tight seal. You have to push it tight into the housing or put a folded piece of paper between its end and the door so that it’s seated securely in a tight position.

Final Remarks

The EveryDrop EDR1RXD1 is an excellent option to consider if you want a refrigerator water filter that can get rid of many different common contaminants and you have a Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn Air, or Aman refrigerator that’s compatible with it. However, it seems to face some counterfeit problems as several customers reported getting a used or defective filter. There’s hardly any information about the warranty either.

Overall score: 18/20

2. Mist UKF8001 Replacement

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 2.5 x 2.5 x 8 inches
  • Weight: 1.4 ounces
  • Filtration capacity: 200 gallons
  • Flow rate: 0.5 GPM
  • Filtration method: coconut shell carbon block media
  • Pore size: n/a micron
  • Certification: NSF standard 42
  • Warranty: n/a

Things to Like

  • Very effective at removing chlorine – the Mist UKF8001 utilizes a coconut shell carbon block filter, which is highly effective at clearing out all the chlorine taste and odor in the water. It’s an ideal option for improving the taste of municipal water as many users attested that the filtered water is very clear with no trace of chlorine taste/odor.
  • Decent flow rate – water flows through the filter at a rate of 0.5 GPM, which is pretty moderate, and some even mentioned that the flow seems a little faster than the original brand filters. It remains steady throughout the lifespan of the filter.
  • It lasts as long as it’s described – like most other water filters, the Mist UKF8001 has a filtration capacity of 200. However, what’s impressive about it is that it works efficiently all through the full six months. You only start to notice a slight change in the taste of water after using it for around five months – the result is the same, even in areas with moderately hard water.
  • Compatible with different refrigerator brands and models –  the other advantage of this Mist filter is that it’s versatile when it comes to compatibility. It works with several select refrigerator models from different brands like Amana, Kenmore, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Viking, and Puriclean II.
  • Very affordable and easy to install – the Mist UKF8001 comes at a pocket-friendly price, much lower than the others making it very affordable. There were also no challenges with regards to installing it. It’s a simple process that needs just twisting it in place after removing the old filter, and it does fit in securely, unlike the EveryDrop EDR1RXD1 filter.

What not to like?

  • Filters out only chlorine taste and smell – it doesn’t filter much other than chlorine taste and smell, so if your water is highly contaminated with heavy metals, chemicals, or waterborne pathogens (bacteria, protozoa, and viruses), it’s not the right option.
  • The water sputters out forcefully at first – several users mentioned that it splashes out the water the first time you install it, which causes a mess all over the fridge. However, after running a few gallons of water, and once all the air clears out of the line, it eventually stops, and the flow is steady.
  • Tends to make gurgling sounds – some found it to be noisier than the original filter. They claimed it starts making loud gurgling sounds like a jackhammer after a few months of regular use, especially when drawing water. It’s not a widespread problem, but it’s something worth noting.

Final Remarks

The Mist UKF8001 is a suitable option if you already have clean water and just want an affordable refrigerator water filter to improve your water’s taste and smell. It’s durable and will effectively remove all the chlorine content in the water. Another advantage is that it comes with a money-back guarantee.

Things to Like

  • Eliminates a wide range of contaminants – this Frigidaire filter is another unit on the list that does a thorough filtration work. It clears out chlorine (97%), mercury (80%), lead (99%), cyst (99%), styrene (99%) and turbidity (98%). It also removes over 98% of insecticides, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals like atrazine, toxaphene, and alachlor. Sediments are as well removed down to 0.5 microns. You get clear water that tastes good and doesn’t have any foul odor.
  • Features a light indicator – this model is equipped with an indicator light which lets you know when the filter needs changing after or before the six-month change cycle. It’s a convenient feature that allows you to replace the filter always on time.
  • Easy to install – installing the WF3CB filter requires little pressure or strength as it features a push-to-lock installation mechanism. You just slide it into the housing and then push until it securely locks into position.  It’s a simple process that anyone can do in a matter of seconds.

What not to like?

  • It doesn’t last long – although it’s stated to last six months, many users reported that it works great for only about two months, and then the flow of water suddenly slows down to a drip such that it can take up to 10 minutes to fill a glass. Others mentioned that it clogs completely after three months, causing the flow to come to a full stop – you can’t make any ice, and water doesn’t come out of the fridge at all.
  • The plastic cartridge housing breaks easily – the plastic cartridge housing appears to be made out of light and flimsy plastic material. It cracks easily if handled with force, and there were even complaints that it leaks slightly even when it’s properly installed and not broken.
  • Many cases of the filters being defective on arrival – we noted lots of reports of customers receiving faulty filters that are either cracked, don’t work, or leak continuously upon installation. It’s something you would want to keep in mind when making a purchase since the filter comes with only a 30-day warranty.

Final Remarks

The Frigidaire WF3CB does a thorough filtration job and clears out many different kinds of contaminants. It’s an option you can consider if you own a Frigidaire side-by-side fridge that features the PureSource 3 filter housing. One thing that’s not guaranteed, though, is its durability.

4. GE RPWFE Refrigerator Water Filter

GE RPWFE Refrigerator Water Filter
  • It works with any refrigerator that currently uses GE RPWF or RPWFE filters. It is used in selected GE french-door refrigerators. Compatible with select GE french-door refrigerators.
  • GE most advanced filtration: Tested and verified to filter five trace pharmaceuticals. Operation Water Pressure (psi): 25 min. - 120 max.
  • Premium filtration: Certified to reduce chlorine-resistant cysts, lead, select pharmaceuticals and 50 other contaminants. Reduces 99% of Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctaine Sulfonate (PFOS)

Pros

  • Ideal for removing lead, and some select pharmaceuticals
  • Removes also cyst, chlorine, PFOA/PFOS, and 50 other contaminants
  • Made using a strong plastic material that doesn’t break easily

Cons

  • The water flow diminishes with time
  • The filter doesn’t last as stated
  • Appears not to fit in some models

About the Product

The GE RPWFE is designed for use in selected GE french-door fridges and can also work with any GE refrigerator that currently uses the  RPWF or RPWFE  filters.  It’s a reasonably efficient filtration system that’s ideal for use on the water that’s very contaminated.

The main filtration media utilized is carbon block, and it’s certified against NSF standards 42 and 53. It can remove 99% of lead, chlorine, chloramine, cyst, pesticides, herbicides, and sediments lingering in the water.

It’s efficient too in removing select pharmaceuticals. It eliminates up to 99% of ibuprofen, atenolol, progesterone, fluoxetine, and trimethoprim. It as well clears out 99% of BPA, PFOA, and PFOS.

Most users reported that their water and ice usually comes out clear and has a great taste. The water flow (0.5 GPM) is moderate during the first 1-2 months of use, but it gradually diminishes down to a trickle afterward since the filter gets clogged quickly.

The filter itself doesn’t last its full lifespan of 6 months either. Many claimed that it works for just around 3 to 4 months, or even less than that if the water is heavily contaminated, which is somewhat disappointing considering that it’s a little on the high price end.

The other downside is that there are compatibility issues. Several users mentioned that it doesn’t fit into their fridge despite having the same model number as their old GE filter. The top “brackets”/ tabs appear to have a different configuration to the old filter.

5. Samsung HAF-CIN/EXP Refrigerator Water Filter

Sale 47%
Samsung Electronics HAFCIN Samsung HAF-CIN/EXP Refrigerator Water Filter 1 Pack, Multicolor
  • Genuine Samsung Water Filter
  • Product comes in two package types. See product images for two versions of packaging
  • Delivers clean, clear water that looks and tastes great and protects the components of your refrigerator from potential sediment

Pros

  • Filters out chlorine, lead, and particulates
  • Removes also most of the other harmful contaminants
  • Fast flow rate and it doesn’t slow down with time
  • Works efficiently the whole six months and a bit longer
  • Easy to install and replace

Cons

  • Only compatible with Samsung refrigerators
  • There are lots of counterfeit models on the market
  • Has a short 30 days  warranty

About the Product

This Samsung refrigerator filter is NSF certified against standards 42 and 53 and utilizes a powerful concentrated carbon block filter to remove various harmful contaminants. It reduces chlorine taste and odor (97%), cysts (99%), lead (99%), asbestos (99%), benzene (97%), and turbidity (94%).

Particulates (98%), pesticides like lindane (99%), and herbicides like atrazine (94%) are equally cleared out of the water by this filter.

Generally, the produced water is clean and clear, with no foul taste or odor. However, a few claimed that it tends to have a plastic/charcoal taste during the initial use, which eventually disappears after drawing a couple of gallons of water.

The flow is much faster at around 0.75 GPM – you don’t have to wait for minutes to fill up a glass of water, and it doesn’t slow down with time like most other carbon block filters.

The capacity is also a bit large (300 gallons), and although it’s stated to last six months, many users reported that the water still comes out clean and tastes great even after using it longer than the six months.

The installation is simple since it’s a push and twist mechanism. The other impressive thing is that it’s compatible with most of Samsung’s side-by-side and French door refrigerator models.

That said, one major setback is that there are lots of counterfeit claims surrounding it. Many customers have reported that the filter they received was not actually the same as the one advertised on Amazon or the original one to be replaced. The center hole is small in diameter, and the top is round instead of being cut at an angle, which results in leaks.

Overall, the Samsung HAF-CIN/EXP is one of the few reliable and efficient refrigerator water filters from Samsung, provided you ensure what you are getting is genuine. If you have a Samsung refrigerator that’s compatible with it, then it’s an option you might want to consider.

6. PURELINE MWF Refrigerator Water filter

Sale 8%
Pureline MWF Water Filter Replacement. Compatible with GE MWF, MWFP, MWFAP, MWFA, MWFINT, GWF, GWFA,...
  • Triple Action Filtration: Pureline filters use advance active coconut carbon blocks that remove the impurities from your drinking water in three different stages. First the water passes through the pores of the filter, which reduce the large sediments and metals. This is known as mechanical filtration. Then the water is further purified through two separate stages of ionization filtration that take place as the water passes through the carbon block to your refrigerator.
  • Creates Clean and Great Tasting Drinking Water: Pureline reduces 99% of Chlorine, Odor, and Particles from your water. After your water passes through our filters all you are left with is clean, great tasting, and safe water to drink.
  • Supreme Filtration: Pureline carbon blocks have been independently tested to to remove heavy metals, large sediments, and all other dangerous impurities and contaminants from your water.

Pros

  • Filters out 26 major contaminants
  • Moderate water flow
  • Robust plastic construction
  • Certifications from reputable organizations
  • Works with refrigerators from different brands

Cons

  • Short service life – lasts only up to 3 months
  • Cases of customers getting different filters than advertised

About the Product

Unlike the other filters, these Pureline filters are certified by the NSF, IAPMO, and WQA. They are certified against NSF standards 42 and 372.

The main filtration media is an advanced carbon block that removes contaminants from the water using three different stages, much like the EveryDrop EDR1RXD1; they include mechanical filtration, followed by electro-kinetic adsorption, and then physical adsorption.

The mechanical filtration stage traps the large sediments while the other two stages pull the remaining small and microscopic contaminants out of the water via ionization filtration.

The entire process eliminates up to 26 different contaminants, including 99% of lead, mercury, VOC, chlorine, odor,  THM, pesticides, herbicides, and particles. Other contaminants removed are copper (96.1%), arsenic (87.8%), lindane (95%), cadmium (97.2%), chromium (96.9%), toxephine (90%), and atrazine (85%).

The taste of the water is significantly improved. However, users mentioned that you have to flush the filters several times after installation because the water initially tastes a bit like rubber/plastic.

There were mixed reactions regarding the water flow, with some claiming that they slow down the water flow compared to the original filter, while others reported that the water flow is much better. Most, however, found the flow to be okay.

The main downside is that their service life is shorter than the original brand filters. Many users claimed that they last 2 to 3 months only despite being specified to last six months. Although it’s not a widespread problem, they tend to also leak after several uses, but they have a robust plastic construction.

In terms of compatibility, these Pureline filters are quite flexible. They’re designed to work with refrigerators models from different brands like Kenmore and GE or other brands that use MWF filters.

Even so, they equally face the same counterfeit problem as the Samsung HAF-CIN/EXP filter above because there were lots of cases of customers getting different filters than what it’s advertised online or the previous Pureline MWF filters they had. The fake filters don’t fit most of the compatible refrigerators.

Regardless, the genuine Pureline MWF replacement filters do their job very well. They are another suitable choice for use on highly contaminated municipal water.
